Detection of improvised explosive devices

The growing threat posed by improvised explosive devices (IEDs) is confronting armed forces worldwide with new challenges. The detection of cables and wires that serve as triggers or control elements is particularly critical. These components, which are often only a few centimetres long, can easily be overlooked in complex terrain – with potentially fatal consequences for military personnel.
